Dear Randy Hladun,

Thank you for contacting the Veterans Review and Appeal Board and providing us with this information.

The Board’s role is to support Veterans, members of the Canadian Forces and the RCMP, and their families, in obtaining benefits for the service-related disabilities. We do this by providing an independent avenue of appeal for disability benefits decisions made by Veterans Affairs Canada. The Board’s appeal process is available to all Veterans and serving members who are dissatisfied with their Veterans Affairs Canada decisions.

We recognize your frustration to obtain supporting medical documentation. Unfortunately, this is outside the scope of the Board. For more information on the Veterans Review and Appeal Board and medical evidence please visit our website’s information section on evidence at www.vrab-tacra.gc.ca/en/evidence.

The Board is committed to providing Veterans with a fair and impartial appeal process for disability benefits. To do this, we operate at arm’s length from Veterans Affairs Canada and our Board Members have the authority to award new or increased benefits if there is evidence to support this. They make full and fair examination of the available information, interpret, and apply the legislation, and write a decision with reasons. Every decision is based on the unique facts and evidence relevant to the case.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact your representative, visit the Veterans Review and Appeal Board website for more information, or contact us via My VAC Account, or via our toll-free number: 1-800-450-8006 TDD/TTY: 1-833-998-2060.

Sincerely,

Melissa Martel
